Japan’s first flagship Harry Potter Shop Launched in Harajuku

In
September 2025, Japan’s first flagship Harry Potter Shop opened its doors in
Harajuku. Officially launched on August 14, 2025, the new store is designed to
be more than just a retail space, aiming to attract both fans and tourists.
Located along the Omotesando Street and directly connected to Meiji-Jingumae
Station, the expansive store spans approximately 900 square meters across two
immersive floors.
Spanning
approximately 900 square meters across two floors, the Harajuku store joins the
list of Harry Potter store locations including London, New York, and within the
Warner Bros Studio Tour attractions. The interior transports visitors into the
heart of the Forbidden Forest, welcoming them with towering trees, flying owls,
and an awe-inspiring statue of Buckbeak the Hippogriff, crafted with stunning
film-level detail. On the first floor, shoppers will discover
Harajuku-exclusive merchandise, ranging from apparel and stationery to
limited-edition souvenirs that blend Wizarding World charm with local flair. A
dedicated House Pride section invites fans to celebrate their Hogwarts
allegiance with themed items for Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and
Slytherin.
The
second floor offers a continuation of the experience. Fans can explore a
Honeydukes-style confectionery area stocked with Every Flavor Beans and
Chocolate Frogs. Nearby, the MinaLima section showcases beautifully designed
art and goods from the famed graphic design duo behind the films. Then there’s
the Butterbeer Bar, a first-of-its-kind establishment outside theme parks in
Tokyo, where visitors can indulge in the frothy beverage, along with exclusive
snacks like the whimsical Buckbeak Bun and Butterbeer ice cream. In addition to
offering a wealth of wizarding-related merchandise, it engages fans with fun
photo spots, an exhibition of film-used props, and an exclusive food and drink
menu at the in-house Butterbeer Bar.
The
arrival of the Harajuku flagship is part of a broader global retail strategy by
Warner Bros. Discovery to expand the Wizarding World franchise beyond theme
parks and studio tours. Japan, with its passionate Harry Potter fan base and
strong tourism sector, was a natural choice for this large-scale launch. The
Harajuku location not only caters to domestic fans but also aims to attract
international visitors seeking unique cultural and shopping experiences in
Tokyo.
The shop’s opening
underscores how immersive retail is evolving, combining entertainment,
gastronomy, and merchandise. By combining iconic products with innovative elements
like the Butterbeer Bar and exclusive Harajuku merchandise, Warner Bros. is
crafting a model of retailtainment designed to keep fans engaged long after
their visit. As Tokyo solidifies its place on the global Harry Potter map, the
Harajuku flagship is expected to become both a major tourist spot and a
cultural landmark for years to come.
