Wipro joins hands with Schneider Electric to develop smart city solutions
India: Wipro, an Indian technology
giant entered into a strategic partnership with the French multinational
corporation Schneider Electric.
The aim of the partnership is to develop
cost effective solutions for India’s smart cities along with the efficient
citizen services for urban and rural communities.
The two companies would together develop
the solutions for India as well as Global Smart City market.
TechSci Research depicts that the two
companies’ already shares partnerships in various areas such as Data Centers, Intelligent
Building Management Systems, Connectivity, etc. Now, by focusing on the
operational technology areas such as energy optimization, data analytics, and
citizen services for smart cities would strengthen the synergies between the
two and the innovative products developed would support the overall smart city
ecosystem to grow.
According to the recently published
report by market research and consulting company TechSci Research, “Market Study on Upcoming Smart Cities in
India, 2015”,
the smart cities project in India would involve overall investments in tune of
USD2 trillion for the development of trunk and internal infrastructure in 100
cities planned under the project. Budget allocation towards the smart cities
program stood at around USD1.2 billion for 2014-15. Gujarat, Rajasthan, Karnataka
and Kerala are few of the states where a maximum number of smart cities would
be developed in coming years. Moreover, a number of smart cities are expected
to be developed with foreign assistance on Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor.
A smart city employs high-end technology
infrastructure that includes comprehensive IT infrastructure, a network of
sensors, cameras, wireless devices and data centers for efficient and effective
delivery of essential services such as electricity, water supply, sanitation,
recycling, managing traffic, transportation systems, etc. Broader elements to
be incorporated into a smart city include Smart Energy, Smart Environment,
Smart Transportation, Smart IT & Communications, Smart Health, Smart
Education, Smart Building and Smart Governance.
