Google to join hands with Telecom operators for its Google Loon Project
India: Google aimed to provide the
internet access to the remote areas of India via its Loon Project. During the
last visit of the Google CEO, Sundar Pichai in December 2015, he announced to
bring the Project Loon to the country.
To make this project successful, the
company is in talks with domestic telecom operators such as BSNL. Currently,
Google is looking for the telecom operator to run the project on a pilot basis.
The Google India Chief, Rajan Anandan
said that the Google Loon Project is infrastructure in the sky, and actual
provisioning of services offered is possible through local telecom operators.
To the project successful, Google India Chief stated that the Indian Government
has been very supportive.
TechSci Research depicts, Google is
focusing on providing internet facilities across the country, During the visit,
Sundar Pichai also announced to provide free Wi-Fi at 400 railway stations in
India; out of which 99 railway stations are well equipped with Wi-Fi by Google,
and rest are expected to have Wi-Fi connectivity by this year end. As well, with
the success of the Project Loon, India especially rural India will get
affordable and high-speed internet. However, the company has not stated
anything about the prices of the services offered via Project Loon.
Further, the company is not only
launching Project Loon in India, it has launched its balloon-powered internet
in Sri Lanka last month and is planning to launch a pilot in Indonesia this
year.
