Polyone Acquires TPE Technology & Assets from Kraton
United
States: Polyone
Corporation, a specialty polymer manufacturer based in the US, has acquired
certain thermoplastic elastomer technologies and assets from a leading global
manufacturer of engineered polymers, Kraton Performance Polymers, Inc. The
value of acquisition is estimated to be around USD72 million. Additionally,
Polyone Corporation and Kraton Performance Polymers have entered into a supply
agreement, according to which, the latter would provide certain raw materials
to Polyone for application in the manufacturing process of the acquired
business. Polyone has also announced plans to shut down its engineered
thermoplastics production facility located in Wichita, Kansas, USA.
The products manufactured by
acquired business unit would be supplied to adhesive, removable protective
films, packaging, medical services and personal care product manufacturers. The
acquisition and supply agreement signed between Polyone Corporation and Kraton
Performance Polymers would enable both the companies to focus and improve their
core competencies. Furthermore, this deal would enable Polyone Corporation to
procure the necessary raw materials and improve its presence in the global
masterbatch market.
According to the recent
report published by TechSci Research, "Global Masterbatch Market By Type, By
End User, By Region, Competition Forecast & Opportunities, 2011 - 2021”,
the global market for masterbatch is projected to surpass USD16 billion by 2016
on account of increasing demand from major end use industries,
such as packaging, food processing, building & construction, and automotive
industries. White masterbatch accounts for the largest share in the global
masterbatch market owing to their ability to blend with a large variety of
thermoplastics.
