Petroleos Mexicanos (Pemex) announces the expansion of its Refinery Plant

Petroleos Mexicanos (Pemex), a Mexico based state owned petroleum company, engaged in the exploration, production, transportation, refining, storage and sale of hydrocarbons and derivatives. Pemex has announced plans to expand the capacity of its ultra-low sulphur diesel (ULSD) plant by 53,000 barrels. The contract to provide engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning services has been provided to Samsung Engineering. This is fourth time when Samsung Engineering is working with Pemex. The company has formerly worked on the Tula Refinery, the Minatitlan Refinery and a Naphtha HDS (Hydro Desulfurization) project for Pemex. Along with this upgrade Samsung will also construct a new plant with capacity of 38,000 barrels of ultra-low sulphur diesel. Both the plants are expected to be operational by 2018.

TechSci Research depicts that the expansion of ULSD plant will help company to increasing their market capture in fuel market as ultra-low sulphur diesel (ULSD) is a diesel fuel with substantially low amount of sulphur and usage of ULSD was also made necessary for diesel engines equipped with advanced emission control devices in order to decrease the exhaust emissions by more than 90%.
