Sandia Labs Develops and Deploys Brain-Inspired Cybersecurity System Processor

The new processor identifies threats faster and in an efficient manner than any traditional systems.

United States: Researchers at Sandia National Laboratories have developed a new cybersecurity system Neuromorphic Cyber Microscope that mimics the human brain’s ability to analyze data. The new processor is being tested upon the labs’ highly-targeted networks. The Neuromorphic Cyber Microscope finds threats 100 times faster and is 1,000 times energy efficient as compared to existing systems.

Sandia Labs initiated testing of Neuromorphic Cyber Microscope on cyber traffic in a demonstration environment. During the test phase, as the threat patterns got more complex, the state-of-the-art conventional system slowed exponentially, but the Neuromorphic Cyber Microscope performed 100 times faster and with 1,000 times more energy-efficiency than racks of conventional cybersecurity systems.

TechSci Research depicts that with the new systems and technologies coming into the market, it is anticipated that the pre-existing infrastructure will be replaced with new systems fuelling the demand of Cyber security services on a holistic level. Moreover, with many companies adapting the cyber security measures, the market of Cyber security services will surge in the forecast period.

According to recently released report by TechSci Research, “Global Cyber Security Market By Security Type, By Solutions, By End Use Industry, By Region, Competition Forecast and Opportunities, 2011-2021”, global market for cyber security is projected to surpass US$ 137 billion by 2021. Growing trend of Bring Your Own Device (BYOD), rising adoption of cloud computing, expanding market for Internet of Things (IoT) are expected to continue driving the cyber security market across the globe over the next five years. Though the global cyber security market is highly fragmented, Symantec Corporation emerged as the largest player in 2015, followed by BAE Systems PLC, Intel Corporation and Cisco Systems.
