Organic Farming Land in US Reaches Record 4.1 Million Acres

United States: United States organic land area has witnessed an 11% increase from the year 2014. Currently 4.1 million acers of land are covered under organic farming. The state of California leads with 688,000 acres of organic farming land while, the state of Montana saw a 30% increase with 417,000 acres, a 100,000-acre increase since 2014. Colorado, North Dakota and New York have also witnessed an increase in organic agriculture land by about 40,000 since 2014. In June 2016, 14,979 certified organic farms were registered showing a 6.2 percent increase as compared to 2014. The organic industry is growing across the globe and with lower commodity grain prices, farmers are looking to add value in order to meet consumer demands.

According to TechSci Research, increasing demand of organic food and beverages across the globe, due to various health benefits associated with it, organic agriculture system is gaining popularity throughout the world. Many countries have increased their organic agriculture land capacity to cater the demand consumers. Further, with consumers changing their preference towards healthy eating and adopting organic food and beverages in their daily diet, the sales of organic and naturally grown products and their byproduct has seen increment from 24 to 28 percentage over the past years. America and Europe has shown tremendous increase in consumption of organic food than their counterpart in the third world and other developing nations, this is since people in these countries have acted upon their desire to purchase and consume healthier eating and maintaining healthy lifestyle in effort to prevent serious health and medical related problems.

According to a recent report published by TechSci Research, “Global Organic Food Market Forecast and Opportunities, 2011 – 2021”, global market for organic food is projected to grow at a CAGR of over 14% during 2016-2021, on account of high demand for organic food in retail stores, restaurants, schools and office cafeterias. Europe dominated demand for organic food across the globe and the region is projected to continue dominating the market through 2021.
