Indian Biogas Association Collaborates with HAI to Advance Hydrogen Promotion Initiatives

Indian Biogas Association Collaborates with HAI

April 22, 2024: Indian Biogas Association (IBA) has forged a strategic alliance with the Hydrogen Association of India (HAI) to accelerate the adoption of bio-based energy solutions, with a specific focus on promoting green and blue hydrogen. Through a memorandum of understanding (MoU), the two organizations aim to collaborate on various initiatives, including training programs, capacity building exercises, and policy advocacy efforts. This partnership underscores a shared commitment to bolstering the production of green energy within the nation.

Gaurav Kedia, Chairman of IBA, highlighted the significant growth potential of the green hydrogen market in India, with projections indicating a substantial market value reaching USD 8 billion by 2030 and USD 340 billion by 2050. With a mutual goal of reducing the country's dependence on imported energy sources, the MoU signifies a joint commitment to advancing sustainable energy initiatives.

The partnership between IBA and HAI seeks to capitalize on synergies between the two associations, driving further growth in the bio-based energy sector. While IBA focuses on advancing the biogas industry, HAI is dedicated to providing comprehensive services and solutions across the hydrogen sector's diverse industries. Together, they aim to accelerate the adoption of green and blue hydrogen technologies, aligning with global efforts to promote emission-free fuel sources.

Gaurav Kedia emphasized the potential of blue hydrogen, which is forecasted to reach 80 million metric tons by 2050. By leveraging biogas to produce both carbon and hydrogen, the partnership aims to address the demand for carbon within industries such as steel production. This innovative approach offers a viable solution to reduce carbon emissions while advancing hydrogen utilization.

RK Malhotra, President of HAI, underscored the importance of policy advocacy in driving the bio-hydrogen and biogas ecosystem forward. The collaborative efforts between IBA and HAI aim to harness government initiatives and industry support to achieve India's green energy objectives. By fostering a conducive regulatory environment and promoting sustainable practices, the partnership aims to facilitate India's transition towards a greener and more sustainable energy landscape, supporting the nation's long-term growth aspirations.
