Sumitomo Chemical to Build Polyethersulfone (PES) Plant in Chiba
Japan: Sumitomo Chemical, a Japan
based company, has planned to construct a polyethersulfone (PES) production
facility at its Chiba Works in Ichihara City, Chiba, Japan. The manufacturing
facility would have a production capacity of 3,000 tons per year and is
expected to commence operations in 2018. The company already operates a PES
manufacturing unit in its Ehime Works in Niihama, Ehime. PES, a high performance
engineering plastics, is a thermoplastic resin with excellent properties in
heat resistance, flame resistance, dimensional stability and hot water
resistance. Construction of the
new PES manufacturing facility in Chiba would result in Sumitomo Chemical’s combined
total PES capacity to
increase twofold.
TechSci Research depicts that
rising demand
for PES from various end users including expanding aircraft industry, dialysis membranes
and automotive applications in Japan would aid the expansion of the Sumitomo Chemical’s business
involving PES and other high performance engineering plastics.
According to the recent
report published by TechSci Research,
“India
Engineering Plastics Market Forecast and
Opportunities, 2020”, India engineering plastics market is projected to
exhibit a CAGR of over 13% during 2015–2020. Engineering plastics are used in
India in diverse industries such as automotive, electrical & electronics,
construction, etc. Increasing disposable income, changing consumer lifestyle,
and rapid urbanization and industrialization are driving automotive
manufacturing in India, thereby propelling the demand for engineering plastics
in the country. Moreover, adoption of lightweight technology in various
industries is further fueling growth in India engineering plastics market, as
the use of engineering plastics results in weight reduction as well as
performance enhancement, along with fostering environmental sustainability.
