Acura’s Second Autonomous Car Prototype Unveiled
Acura has come up with its second driverless car prototype which is
anticipated to be tested by its parent company Honda, in San Francisco
United States: Acura has unveiled another prototype of
autonomous car, which will be tested in San Francisco by the parent company
Honda. The new autonomous prototype is a sedan car which is equipped with
technologies such as LIDAR, RADAR, GPS Sensors and cameras. These technologies
are claimed to be supported by an efficient processing system. The company has
mounted the sensors on the roof on the autonomous prototype car, which enables
the car to analyse the external environment and velocity of nearby vehicles. On
the other hand, with the help of cameras, the car is enabled to detect the
shape and size of the nearby objects.
The autonomous prototype is anticipated to be
tested at “GoMentum” by Honda. Built in 5,000 acre area and 20 miles of paved
roads, GoMentum is a testing ground for autonomous vehicles in San Francisco. The
ground is equipped with simulating infrastructure, which crafts desirable
conditions for testing the prototype.
According to a recent report published by TechSci Research, “Global
Autonomous Car Technology Market Forecast and Opportunities, 2035 – ADAS, Semi-Autonomous,
Fully-Autonomous” global autonomous car technology market is
expected to witness a CAGR of over 10% through 2035. The market is currently
dominated by ADAS segment, which is expected to maintain its dominance over the
next twenty years as well. The dominance of this segment can be attributed to
anticipated increase in government regulations pertaining to integration of
ADAS technologies in passenger cars. Further, semi-autonomous car technology is
expected to witness robust growth over the next ten years, owing to anticipated
decline in its average selling price coupled with rising volume sales.
Region-wise, North America has emerged as the largest contributor in the market
for autonomous car technology, followed by Europe, Asia-Pacific (APAC) and
Middle East North Africa (MENA).
As per TechSci Research, Acura’s second foray
into the world of autonomous vehicles has been the result of constant
endeavours made by the company in the domain of driverless vehicles. It is
anticipated that the company will launch the successful model of driverless car
in the coming years. Apart from Acura, several other companies such as, BMW,
Daimler, Toyota, Volvo and Ford are also anticipated to launch autonomous cars
in the coming years.
