Nuclear Plants to be set up in Northern India States of Punjab, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh
India: The Government of India recently
announced that nuclear plants will be established in the states of Uttar
Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Punjab. By building such plants in Northern India, the
government aims to increase the presence of Nuclear Energy in this region. The
Minister of State, Jitendra Singh, also responded to the news of leakages in
Kakrapar Atomic Power Plant, stating that the plant is on regular shut down for
maintenance.
TechSci Research depicts that Government
of India plans to increase the share of Nuclear energy in the total energy mix.
The recent developments on importing nuclear fuel from countries such as
Australia, USA and Canada have further strengthened India’s hopes to boost
Nuclear Energy in India which presently contributes to around 2% in total power
generated in India. The development of new plants in Punjab, UP and Uttarakhand
will also lead to the growth of Transmission and Distribution network so as to
evacuate power from these upcoming nuclear plants. The increase in generation
capacity and subsequent increase in T&D network will fuel the growth of India
Power and Distribution Transformer Market.
According to “India Power & Distribution
Transformers Market Forecast & Opportunities, 2020”, the power and distribution transformers market in
India is projected to grow at a CAGR of over 10% till 2020. Power transformers
contribute a major portion in overall market revenues due to their higher price
points. India is also focusing on use of alternative energy resources like
nuclear and solar energy for power generation, which is expected to further
boost transformer deployments in the country in the coming years.
