Machine to Machine Communication SIM cards to have KYC norms soon
India: TechSci Research depicts that with the
growing boom of smart city initiative in India, growing IoT market and growing
communication between machines, growing smart homes market and increasing
security concerns, and so on; the need for strict regulation to monitor the
issue of sim cards is growing. To address the concern, the department of
telecommunication in India would soon issue ‘know your customer’ (KYC) norm for
mobile sim cards issued for equipment such as CCTV, Television, Air
Conditioner, etc.
According
to the secretary of the ministry, the roadmap for Machine to Machine (M2M)
communication is prepared and specific guidelines for M2M-KYC have been
prepared. These guidelines will be issued soon.
The
secretary also states that these guidelines will be different from
Phone-to-Phone Communication. As in M2M KYC there will be provision to allow
sim transfer, no tele-verification would be required, and some communication
(SMS, data, and voice) on few predefined numbers.
