India: Oppo, the Chinese smartphone manufacturing company has announced that it will be starting the local manufacturing of across 10 lakh 4G smartphones per month in its new Noida facility from the month of August, over which the Indian wholly subsidiary of OPPO Telecoms Corp Ltd., OPPO Mobiles India has invested around INR 100 Crores.

As per the Chief Executive of Oppo Mobiles India, Mr. Mike Wang, the designing of these 4G smartphones will be done in China which will be manufactured in the facility post the customization of local level for the Indian market. Additionally, Mr. Wang did not specify that which models will be manufactured in the facility but he revealed that the price range of these smartphones will be in between INR 10-20 thousand.

With the start of manufacturing in its Noida facility, the company aims to identify a portion of its production capacity for the export market of South Asia in the upcoming future. It was also stated by Mr. Wang that despite their set up of new Noida facility, the Taiwanese contract manufacturer, Foxconn, which has around 8 production lines dedicated to the manufacturing of OPPO’s smartphones in its Chennai factory, will continue to manufacture the smartphones for OPPO in the country.

With the fastest growing market of smartphones in the country, the company’s decision of locally manufacturing the smartphone is considered to be beneficial in the upcoming future as various other handset manufacturers like Gionee, Lenovo, Xiaomi, etc. have also started their manufacturing operations in the country in alliance with Foxconn.

As India is one of the fastest growing smartphone markets and smartphone manufacturers are tapping this opportunity by manufacturing locally.
