Apple may deploy OLED displays in its upcoming phones
United States: Apple Inc., a premium phone
manufacturer is working on its upcoming smartphone, iPhone 8 and iPhone 7S. According
to the sources, the company is planning to deploy
Active-Matrix-Organic-Light-Emitting-Diode (AMOLED) technology in its upcoming
smartphone models. Apple Inc. was earlier using LCD displays in its phones.
Apple Inc. is planning to source the
OLED displays from the leading manufacturers; and Samsung Display is its first
priority, according to the sources. However, the company is also considering LG
Display and Japan Display as OLED display suppliers.
TechSci Research depicts, the increasing
manufacturing of OLED displays across the world especially in countries such as
China, Taiwan and South Korea is driving the OLED Display technology market.
Companies such as Samsung Display ad LG Displays are taking the lead and supply
displays to the prominent smartphone manufacturers.

is projected to grow at a CAGR over 38% during 2016 - 2021. OLED displays
accounted for the majority share in China’s OLED market, on account of their
rising adoption in smartphones, tablets, MP3/MP4 players, automotive applications
and defense sector. Light weight, better color performance, less power
consumption, high brightness, etc., are few of the advantages driving increase
in penetration of these OLED displays in China. OLED displays accounted for a
lion’s share in China OLED market, due to rising use of these displays in
smartphones, tablets and notebooks. Anticipated growth in demand for consumer
electronics in the coming years is projected to increase the deployment of
AMOLEDs.
