Zoetis and Merial together to market dairy products in India

India: Zoetis India Ltd, a subsidiary of Zoetis Inc. and Merial, animal health division of Sanofi entered into an agreement to market and distribute medicines and vaccines to serve dairy cattle in India. As per the deal, Zoetis products, including brands such as Lutalyse, Bovical, Xnel Dectomax and Vaccines like Spirovac and Rispoval will be marketed by Merial India starting from 1st week of April 2016. Currently, Merial is into various diversified portfolio consisting of over 50 brands which includes vaccines, therapeutics and nutritional products for pets and poultry. 

According to a recently published report by TechSci Research “India Dairy Products Market by Type, Competition Forecast and Opportunities, 2011 – 2021”, the market for dairy products in India is projected to grow at a CAGR of over 7% during 2016 - 2021. In 2015, North India dominated the country’s dairy products market, on account of increasing per capita expenditure, rising youth population, introduction of value added dairy products, changing consumption patterns, and growing penetration of international players. India dairy products market is witnessing a shift towards healthier products such as probiotic drinks, yogurts, etc. Few of the leading players operating in India dairy products market include Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd., National Dairy Development Board, Karnataka Cooperative Milk Producers Federation Ltd., and Tamil Nadu Co-operative Milk Producers' Federation Limited, among others.

According to TechSci Research, India is world’s largest producer of milk with 16% share of the total market contributed by India in overall global production. So, the health of these animals who are contributing in the production needs to be taken care of properly through these medicines and vaccines. Through the strong presence and distribution reach of Merial in India will help Zoetis to make their products available in the Indian market. Moreover, both the companies would be able to extend their current portfolios and to make new strategies to serve the Indian cattle market. The new agreement will also help the two giants to make their products available in an efficient and reliable manner as well as it will also help Zoetis India to build the stronger presence in the field of poultry sector.
