Harley Davidson launched “Sportster 1200 Custom” in India

India: Premium motorcycle brand, Harley Davidson has launched one of its most awaited model – “Sportster 1200 Custom” in India. The company has priced the motorcycle at INR 8.9 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). According to the company, the Sportster 1200 Custom motorcycle will be imported in CKD (Complete Knock Down) format in to the country and later assembled at Bawal plant in Haryana. Launch of Sportster 1200 custom has resulted in expansion of company’s product portfolio, assembled from CKD format.

As per the Managing Director of Harley Davidsion India, Mr. Vikram Pawah, the company is poised to expand its reach to gratify personal freedom in order to promote the dream of leisure motorcycling. The company has a strategic plan to drive its growth to the next level.

Apart from premium motorcycles, the company also deals in extensive range of spare parts, accessories and merchandise.

TechSci Research believes that launch of Sportster 1200 Custom model will strengthen company’s position in Indian market. The recent report published by TechSci Research, “India Premium Motorcycles Market Forecast and Opportunities, 2020” states that India premium motorcycles market is projected to grow at a CAGR of over 27% during 2015-20. Rising number of high net worth Individuals coupled with an increasing number of premium motorcycle players focusing on setting up domestic production or assembly units in India are the major factors expected to drive the country’s premium motorcycles market over the next five years. Harley Davidson Motor Company dominated the premium motorcycles market in India in 2014, however, on account of recent entry of other global giants such as Triumph Motorcycles, Indian Motorcycles and Benelli in India, Harley is expected to face stiff competition in the coming years.
