America’s Top Sportswear brand ‘UNDER ARMOUR’ is set to enter into India
India: The
America’s second largest sportswear brand is entering into Indian market rising
competition for brands like Adidas & Nike. Although, it is a new entrant in
the category, Baltimore based Under Armour has created worries when it passed
German sporting goods maker Adidas in the US in terms of profits, the world’s
largest sportswear market in 2014.
Under
Armour, which possess sales of $3 billion, is still in the talking process with
several big e-commerce players in the Indian Market and their international
business is anticipated to grow to $7.5 billion by 2018.
Under
Armour is a global company and exploring opportunities to bring their technology
and innovations to new markets is a retail plan that the company is following.
According to TechSci
Research, India being a
young country with almost 50% of population between the age group of 15 – 45
and with other factors like increasing spending power of the people and rising
consciousness towards health, Under Armour definitely has an opportunity in the
sportswear’s market.
With
existing players & new entrants in sportswear market, more Indians are
wearing branded sportswear. Further, the underdog strategy of the company to endorse
less renowned athletes would encourage the sports industry in India.
India’s
INR 6,000 crore Sportswear market, which constitutes of apparels, footwear and
accessories, is expected to grow. Increasing health awareness among people,
rising health concerns, increasing per capita spending are few of the major
growth drivers for branded sportswear ecosystem.
