Nissan-Renault Alliance Rolls Out Millionth Car in India
Chennai: The jointly owned Chennai plant of Nissan
and Renault, which is the largest alliance production facility in the world has
achieved the one millionth mark. The plant was constructed in the year 2010
with an initial investment of INR4,500 crores is the production facility for
both Nissan and Renault.
The first car produced at the manufacturing
unit was Nissan Micra and the millionth car that rolled out was also a
left-hand drive Nissan Micra that will be exported to a foreign market. The
manufacturing plant located in Oragadam, near Chennai caters to both the
domestic and foreign market. Christian Mardrus, Chairman of Nissan’s Africa,
Middle East and India region, said on this achievement that the Chennai
facility has and will continue playing vital role in the development of their
business in India. This milestone reflects the popularity of Nissan and Renault
products in India and export market, and gave the credit to their skilled and
dedicated staffs.
The plant has introduced till date 32 new
Renault, Nissan and Datsun models and its derivatives to the product line. The
plant, which also has the presence of research and development department,
employs 12,000 direct staffs and 4,000 indirect staffs through its vendors. The
plant has exported to 106 countries and the most recent production of the unit
is Renault Kwid. The production facility has produced all the cars used in
India under the brand names Renault, Nissan and Datsun.
TechSci Research believes that due to this achievement by the Alliance
facility of Nissan and Renault, the company will strengthen its position in the
Indian passenger car market as well as globally. The recent report published by
