Warangal Set to Get India’s largest Textile Park
Warangal (Telangana) which is the
second largest city after Hyderabad is all set to get country’s largest textile
park with the massive area of 2000-3000 acres. This is a major breakthrough for
the Indian textile industry and the state itself, which was formed after split
from Andhra Pradesh. The proposed park will receive a total funding of 3000
crores over the years and it will be of an international standard with all the
modern facilities for the stakeholders.
Indian textile industry was facing
tough times because of low cost manufacturing from China and now Bangladesh. Current
textile parks in Solapur, Surat and others have specialisation in particular
categories while this proposed park will cover all the segments.
Different companies have expressed
their interest in the development of this park and some have already come
forward to take the first mover advantage. Since the city has already been
selected under Central govt. ‘’Smart City Project” this would also help the
textile industry in long term.
According to TechSci Research, Warangal’s geographical location and
proximity to availability of raw materials like cotton and other give it huge
advantage over others. This mammoth size park may change the landscape of Indian
textile industry which has been losing its market share to cheap manufacturing
in Bangladesh in last couple of years. Since this park is proposed to also have
an apparel park for ready-made clothing, this will help country in taking a
lead in ready-made garment export.
