India, the third largest economy of Asia set forth a new record by reporting the mobile subscription base of 1 billion; becoming the only country after China to achieve this milestone.

India. As per the recent report released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India on 30th Dec 2015, India has touched the 1 billion mark in mobile subscription in October, depicting the fast growing mobile market in India.

India has now become the second nation, after China which has one billion mobile subscribers. The growth in the wireless subscription market is attributed to the aggressive price cut on mobile call rates and data plans by operators.

Apart from it, the smartphones manufacturers offering low cost mobile phones is pushing the mobile subscription base to new heights. In the Indian market especially, dual phones are particular popular allowing Indian price sensitive consumers to use two different plans at the same time.

The market estimates that the India is adding more than 10 million mobile subscribers every three months, unlike China. Though, China has achieved its 1 billion mobile subscribers in the year 2012.

TechSci Research also depicts that the players are creating the opportunities in the market. Recently, the Google CEO Sundar Pichai announced to provide free wi-fi facility at 400 railway station in India, Tech Mahindra launching Mobile Wallet, Reliance Jio launching 4G in the Indian market, and India’s prime minister Digital India plan; are making the environment conducive for growth.
