Hydrite Chemical Invests $63 Million in South Carolina Manufacturing Expansion

Hydrite Chemical Invests $63 Million in South Carolina Manufacturing Expansion

Chemical solutions provider establishes Southeast regional hub with greenfield facility in Laurens County.

Laurens County, South Carolina, United States: Hydrite Chemical Company announced in February 2026 a $63 million investment to expand operations in Laurens County, South Carolina, creating 13 new positions. The expansion includes a 43-acre greenfield site in Hunter Industrial Park that will serve as the future hub for Hydrite's Southeast regional operations, encompassing recently acquired Enterprise Specialty Products, Inc. operations. The company will construct a 50,000-square-foot facility incorporating offices, laboratories, warehouses, and operations and logistics spaces dedicated to chemical manufacturing and distribution.

Founded in 1929, Hydrite operates across three business units Food & Beverage Solutions, Manufactured Solutions, and Agriculture & Sulfur Solutions offering sustainable solutions for food safety, water treatment, and agricultural applications. Beyond the Laurens County facility, Hydrite maintains a network of manufacturing facilities, warehouses, and laboratories in California, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Texas. Operations at the new Southeast hub are expected to commence in 2028. The Coordinating Council for Economic Development awarded a $300,000 Set-Aside grant to Laurens County to support site preparation and building construction costs.

According to Hydrite CEO Kevin Honkamp, "Building on our recent acquisition of Enterprise Specialty Products, Inc. in Laurens County, we're proud to deepen our roots in South Carolina with a new greenfield facility. The state's exceptional business climate and talented workforce make it the right place to invest, create quality jobs and better serve customers across the Southeast and beyond. We are grateful for the support from South Carolina and look forward to being a long-term partner in the Laurens County community's growth."

According to TechSci Research, Hydrite's strategic greenfield investment in South Carolina reflects calculated geographic expansion to enhance proximity to growing Southeast U.S. end markets, particularly in food and beverage manufacturing, agriculture, and water treatment sectors. The acquisition-plus-expansion strategy demonstrates Hydrite's intent to establish regional manufacturing and distribution dominance through both organic growth and inorganic consolidation. South Carolina's competitive business environment, characterized by favorable tax structures, right-to-work legislation, and robust logistics infrastructure, continues to attract specialty chemical manufacturers seeking cost-effective operational platforms with access to Atlantic seaboard markets. The relatively modest job creation (13 positions) relative to investment magnitude ($63 million) suggests capital intensity focused on automated manufacturing systems and distribution logistics rather than labor-intensive operations. This expansion positions Hydrite to capture market share in the fragmented regional chemical distribution landscape while benefiting from proximity-driven customer service advantages. The 2028 operational timeline provides sufficient lead time for facility optimization and workforce development, positioning the site for immediate contribution upon commissioning.
