Toshiba Unveils Next-Generation SCiB Lithium-Ion Battery at Asia Sustainable Energy Week 2025

Bangkok, June 23, 2025 — Toshiba Corporation has announced its active participation in the upcoming Asia Sustainable Energy Week 2025 (ASEW 2025), set to take place from July 2 to 4 at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center (QSNCC) in Bangkok, Thailand. As Asia’s leading event dedicated to clean energy innovation, ASEW 2025 serves as a strategic platform for global and regional players to showcase transformative technologies in sustainable power generation, energy storage, and green mobility. Toshiba will be spotlighting its groundbreaking SCiB lithium-ion battery, a solution engineered to support the decarbonization of key sectors such as transportation, logistics, maritime operations, and renewable energy storage.

At the exhibition, Toshiba will present a comprehensive overview of the SCiB battery’s capabilities and real-world applications. Known for its unique lithium titanium oxide (LTO) anode chemistry, the SCiB lithium-ion battery is recognized for delivering exceptional performance in terms of safety, fast charging, and long operational life. One of its standout features is the ability to recharge to 80% capacity in just six minutes, making it ideal for high-demand use cases in both mobile and stationary settings. With a lifespan exceeding 20,000 charge-discharge cycles, the SCiB battery is poised to become a critical component in industries requiring robust, reliable, and efficient power solutions.

Toshiba’s SCiB battery is already being adopted across a wide range of applications. From electric vehicles and urban transportation systems to logistics fleets, maritime vessels, and grid energy storage installations, the battery’s durability, space efficiency, and rapid charging capabilities offer significant advantages for organizations pursuing energy-efficient operations. At ASEW 2025, Toshiba will also highlight the role of SCiB in promoting sustainable urban mobility through its innovative Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model.

This BaaS pilot project, currently underway in Bangkok, is designed to make clean mobility more accessible. In partnership with a local operator, the initiative enables electric motorcycle taxi drivers to utilize SCiB battery technology without incurring heavy upfront costs. This approach democratizes access to green transportation while addressing a critical challenge in Southeast Asia—battery fire safety in high-temperature environments. The SCiB battery’s excellent thermal stability ensures that performance and safety are not compromised, even under intense heat conditions, positioning it as a safe and reliable energy source for the region.

Toshiba invites all attendees of ASEW 2025 to visit Booth G51 for an immersive experience of the SCiB battery’s capabilities. The booth will feature interactive displays, technical panels, and live product demonstrations, providing attendees a first-hand look at the battery’s unique characteristics—including its robust safety profile, ultra-fast charging time, and exceptional longevity. Experts from Toshiba’s Battery Division will be present to engage with visitors, answer technical questions, and explore opportunities for strategic partnerships.

As the world moves toward electrification and carbon neutrality, Toshiba’s SCiB lithium-ion battery is positioned as a cornerstone technology in building a cleaner, smarter, and more sustainable energy ecosystem for Asia and beyond.
