Opto Diode Introduces Deep Red Surface-Mount LED

Taiwan: Opto Diode Corporation, an ITW company, has introduced a near infrared deep red Surface-Mount Device (SMD) Light-Emitting Diode (LED), that delivers exceptional efficiency for biological analysis, health, science, medical, and veterinary applications. The product labelled OD-685C LED features 2.0mW of radiant power at a forward current of 20mA, peak wavelength of 685nm, and radiant efficiency of 56 percent.

This new surface-mount device is fully operational within a very wide temperature range from -65 °C to +125 °C, making it ideal for use in harsh environmental conditions. The forward voltage of the OD-685C is typically 1.8V with a maximum of 2.2V. The spectral bandwidth at 50 percent is 30 nm. The new deep red SMD LED is RoHS and REACH compliant. The company has been expanding its product lines and is expected to introduce more surface-mount LED devices in 2017. The company delivers sensors, photodiodes, IR detectors, photonic modules, assemblies and LEDs available in standard and custom designs.

TechSci Research depicts that the company has been increasingly focusing on new product LED launches ranging from infrared to ultraviolet range. The company’s latest product launch also falls in the same category as the company has been increasingly focusing on introduction of infrared LED products with applications in healthcare and food processing sector. This is set to benefit the company in the long run given the huge potential of infrared LED in these applications.

According to a recently published report by TechSci Research, “Global Infrared LED Market By Application (Imaging, Lighting, Surveillance, Automotive & Others), By Region (Asia-Pacific, Americas, Europe, and Middle East and Africa) and Competition Forecast and Opportunities, 2010 – 2020’’, the global infrared LED market is projected to grow at a CAGR of more than 9% during 2015-2020. Major factors propelling growth in the global infrared LED market include rising use of infrared LEDs in smartphones for iris recognition, and increasing use of these LEDs in CCTVs and surveillance systems. Asia-Pacific is the largest regional market for infrared LEDs in the world, due to the increasing penetration of these LEDs in smartphones, automotive, surveillance systems and other segments. Epistar Corporation, Nichia Corporation, Everlight Electronics, High Power Lighting, etc. are among the major Infrared LED companies involved in manufacturing infrared LEDs for various end user applications.
