Faraday Future to Test Autonomous Cars in California

United States: California Department of Motor Vehicles has confirmed that Faraday Future has been granted permission to test its electric prototype of autonomous car on its public roads. The company, which has acquired the approval on June 17, 2016, intends to manufacture and sell electric vehicles in the United States by 2017.

The company has been testing prototype of electric vehicles since last year at its private facilities. According to Jan Becker, senior director of automated driving at Faraday’s San Jose technology centre, the cars designed by the company would be equipped with ““state of the art driver assistance systems”. Such systems would categorize the electric car into “Level 4” autonomous car categorization.

More than 13 companies have already received approvals in California for testing autonomous prototypes. Google, Volkswagen, Tesla, Mercedes, BMW, Nissan, Honda, and Ford are few of the companies which have been granted the approvals for the same.

According to a recent report published by TechSci Research, “Global Autonomous Car Technology Market Forecast and Opportunities, 2035 – ADAS, Semi-Autonomous, Fully-Autonomous” global autonomous car technology market is expected to witness a CAGR of over 10% through 2035. The market is currently dominated by ADAS segment, which is expected to maintain its dominance over the next twenty years as well. The dominance of this segment can be attributed to anticipated increase in government regulations pertaining to integration of ADAS technologies in passenger cars. Further, semi-autonomous car technology is expected to witness robust growth over the next ten years, owing to anticipated decline in its average selling price coupled with rising volume sales. Region-wise, North America has emerged as the largest contributor in the market for autonomous car technology, followed by Europe, Asia-Pacific (APAC) and Middle East North Africa (MENA)

As per TechSci Research, Faraday Future’s foray into the world of autonomous vehicles is anticipated to result into stiff competition amongst companies in the domain of driverless vehicles. It is anticipated that the company will launch the successful model of self-driven car in the coming year.
