Daimler to launch its Electric Car at Paris Auto Show in October 2016

While competing with Tesla Motors’ X SUV electric car, Daimler would be
unveiling its most awaited Mercedes Benz electric car at the Paris auto show in
October 2016.
The company’s Chief Development Officer
(CDO), Thomas Weber stated that the company would present a prototype of an
electric-powered Mercedes car with a 500-km (310-mile) range, at an event in
Stuttgart. Also he announced that the team is working upon the structure of the
car as well as the initial results from road tests are still in line. However,
the CDO didn’t commented on the specific time of the electric car’s on-road
arrival, other than sometime within this decade.
Daimler along with its European competitors are
investing a huge capital in the development of electric vehicles, considering
the new reforms made by the EU regarding pollution. The growing pollution
levels in Germany, has forced the government of the country to also announce
subsidies for the people buying electric and other less polluting cars in the
nation.
Few other German car manufacturers such as
Porsche and Audi have already launched a similar category of long distance
electric car prototypes, whereas, the BMW is still working upon its model.
The CDO of the company, Thomas Weber, also declared
about the launch fourth-generation electric Smart car by Daimler at the end of
the year in two variants. Moreover, the company’s hybrid models are in
pipeline. The company focuses on selling over 100,000 electric car variants,
annually, by the end of the decade. However, he did not reveal the sales figure
of the company for 2015.
Besides that, the company have continuously
been working on the fuel cell technology as well. The fuel cell powered car runs
on electricity generated by hydrogen. The company planned to launch a fuel cell
car in the initial days of 2014, however, due to pricing issues, the plan was
postponed. The fuel cell version of Mercedes SUV GLC, is likely to compete with
the popular Mirai model by Toyota, with the production initiating from next
year.
