KAHRAMAA intensifies AC usage campaign
Qatar: Qatar General Electricity and
Water Corporation (KAHRAMMA) is driving public awareness through National
Program for Conservation and Energy Efficiency (Tarsheed) and its efforts seem
to have gained momentum in spreading the message to go for the Energy Star
rating system for Air- Conditioners (ACs) ensuring energy conservation and
power efficiency of ACs.
KAHRAMMA is working in association with
the Ministry of Municipality, the Ministry of Economy and Commerce and Qatar
General Organization for Standardization and it has succeeded in launching the
energy efficiency labeling system, which demonstrates energy efficiency and
conservation parameters.
Besides, KAHRAMMA has also succeeded in
bringing new partners to drive its message, as it has been joined by Majid Al
Futtaim group’s Carrefour Qatar, which is working on its Community outreach
program to spread the message among the masses. As part of the campaign,
Carrefour Qatar has extended its electrical appliances area, displaying a wide
range of air conditioners with highly efficient energy performance systems.
According to TechSci Research analysis, KAHRAMMA
efforts are likely to help companies that sell their products with energy
efficiency labels, while it will adversely affect conventional air conditioners
following its announcement to ban import and sale of all conventional air
conditioners from July 1 this year.
According to a report published by TechSci Research, “GCC
Air Conditioners Market By Product
Type (Split, Chiller, Window, VRF and Others), By End Use Sector (Commercial
and Residential), By Country (Saudi Arabia, Qatar, UAE, Oman, Kuwait and
Bahrain), Competition Forecast and Opportunities, 2011 – 2021”, the market for air
conditioners in GCC is forecast to grow at a CAGR of over 10% during 2016–2021.
Saudi Arabia dominates GCC air conditioners market, on account of large
population size and continuing growth across various sectors in the Kingdom.
Split air conditioners dominated demand for air conditioners in the GCC region
in 2015. The air conditioners market in the region is dominated by players such
as LG, Daikin, Toshiba Carrier, Zamil and Samsung. However, GCC air conditioners
market is majorly import driven due to limited manufacturing plants of major
air conditioner players in GCC countries.
