Report Description

oble gases comprise Group VIII elements of the periodic table. Krypton, Xenon and Neon are known as rare gases due to the fact that these gases constitute only 0.002% of atmospheric air.  Since Neon is found most abundantly among other rare gases, constituting about 0.001% of the atmospheric air, Neon accounts for the highest percentage share in terms of production volume, followed by Krypton and Xenon. The production process of rare gases includes distillation of atmospheric air, which yields a crude Krypton-Xenon mixture. This mixture is separated into Krypton and Xenon using a separation column. Neon is extracted as Helium-Neon mixture, which is further purified to recover Neon gas. Rare gases find major use in lighting applications as these gases emit light upon applying an electric field. For this reason, rare gases are used in HIDs (High Intensity Discharge Lamps), CFLs (Compact Fluorescent Lamps) and other lighting applications. Rapid advancements in semiconductor technology have led to the emergence of LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes), which emit light using semiconductor diodes without utilizing any gaseous medium. Consequently, usage of rare gases in lighting applications is likely to diminish in coming years.

According to “United States Rare Gases Market Forecast & Opportunities, 2019”, the United States rare gas market revenues are forecast to grow at a CAGR of around 1.34% during 2014-19. The United States government’s energy efficient programs have been driving the adoption of insulated windows across the country, particularly as the Department of Energy (DOE) provides rebates and incentives for replacing old windows with energy efficient ones. Consequently, demand for rare gases in this application has been increasing, as rare gases are used to fill the empty space between two glass panes. Moreover, application of lasers in medical sector continues to grow due to various benefits such as precise treatment and less trauma for patients. Gas lasers are being increasingly used in medical applications for surgical purposes such as dermatology, ophthalmic surgeries and cosmetic surgical treatments. Use of Xenon gas as a medical anaesthetic is also expected to further boost the demand for rare gases over the next five years. “United States Rare Gases Market Forecast & Opportunities, 2019” report elaborates following particulars:
